  Letter from the Editor...

Dear Folks,

There's been a lot of talk about end times and the antichrist recently.  Many are asking the questions:  Is this the end times?  Is the antichrist here?  The Bible tells us that no one knows the time when Jesus will return, but we know that before He does, there will be a terrible time under the rule of the antichrist.  How can you tell the difference?  In this issue, you can discover characteristics of an antichrist.  Plus if you have been feeling like your life has tanked and you're living in an inescapable valley, take heart.  Jesus will help us through our valleys.  Don't miss the story of Jesus' resurrection.

If you are not sure if you qualify as a believer, then please visit our  Do you know for sure? page first.   Let's begin our study...

The Believer's Mission...

"Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient; whereunto also they were appointed.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy."

1 Peter 2:1-10

Antichrist?

"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.  This is a deceiver and an antichrist." 2 John 1:7

The Bible teaches us that many deceivers are in the world.  Satan works through these deceivers or antichrists to deceive and mislead people, keeping them from true salvation.  Yet, there is one who will come who will be more powerful than any of the others.  He will rule the world for a time.  In the end days there will be a falling away before the antichrist is revealed.  Many will be deceived into thinking that the antichrist is the savior of the world.  They will be wrong.

When I worked for a book store, one of my responsibilities was taking the day's receipts to the bank.  Imagine my surprise when the teller held up a $20 bill from my cash deposit and pronounced it a fake.  How could she tell I wondered.  Seeing my embarrassment and confusion, she explained that since tellers handle so much money, they can easily spot a fake bill.   Like a deceiver, this fake $20 looked like the real thing.

How can we avoid being deceived by a false Messiah?  The Word of God gives us some clues.  The Apostle Paul tells us how we can identify the antichrist in 2 Thessalonians:

"Let no man deceive you by any means:  for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:  only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:  even him, whose coming after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."  2 Thessalonians 2:3-12

Think about it...

Could you be deceived if this antichrist acted and spoke unrighteously?  No.  If he acted according to his sinful nature, we would never be deceived.  We would know him for what he is.

A deceiver makes you believe he is on your side, believing what you believe, and acting as if he supports the truth of God.  He performs good works, may even seem to have faith.  Like Judas Iscariot was part of Jesus' inner circle, he too can be part of the inner circle, not easily recognized for what he is.  When he is revealed, shock follows.

How easily we can be taken in if we do not know the truth of God's Word.  God's Word reveals the darkness at the root of this man's being.  Remember he does not reveal himself at first, but will proclaim himself "god" in time.  When he does, you will know that he is an antichrist.

"Little children, it is the last time:  and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now there are many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.  They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us:  but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."  1 John 1:18-19

Antichrists are part of the body of believers for a time, until they separate themselves from the believers.  How can we protect ourselves from being deceived?  We are not powerless.  We have the Holy Spirit who teaches us and guides us in all things.

"But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things." I John 1:20

An antichrist denies that Jesus is the Christ and denies that Jesus is the Son of God.

"I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." 1 John 22:1-22

An antichrist works to destroy the body of Christ.

"Little children, let no man deceive you:  he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:7-8

We have an advocate, a Savior and His name is Jesus.  Jesus makes us worthy to be called the children of God because He died on a cross and rose alive from the dead.  Satan is a defeated enemy.  He will not win the war against Jesus and those who are called by His name, but he will battle against the believers tirelessly.

"Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you."  1 John 3:13

A final word...

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:  because many false prophets are gone into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God:  every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:  and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:  because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.  They are of the world:  therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.  We are of God:  he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.  Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." 1 John 4:1-6

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:  and his commandments are not grievous.  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:  and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth Jesus is the Son of God?  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:  and these three are one.  And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood:  and these three agree in one."  1 John 5:3-8

"All unrighteousness is sin:  and there is a sin not unto death. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life."  1 John 5:17-20

When Jesus comes...

Jesus will come again in the clouds says Paul in Acts.  He will not come as a man from amongst our midst.

"And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight.  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."  Acts 1:9-11

MUSINGS... The Resurrection Story from John 19:14 -20:10

"And it was the preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour:  and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

But they cried out, away with him, away with him, crucify him.  Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King?

The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified.  And they took Jesus, and led him away.

And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:  where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.  And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross.  And the writing was, Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews.  This title then read many of the Jews:  for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city:  and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, the King of the Jews; but that He said I am King of the Jews.

Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat:  now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.  They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be:  that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith,  they parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture thy did cast lots.  These things therefore the soldiers did.

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.  When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, He saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son.  Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar:  and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished:  and He bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, for that Sabbath day was an high day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.  Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.  But when they came to Jesus, and saw that He was dead already, they brake not His legs:  but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.  And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true:  and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

For these things were done, that the Scripture should be fulfilled, a bone of Him shall not be broken.  And again another Scripture saith, they shall look on Him whom they pierced.

And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus:  and Pilate gave him leave.  He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.  Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.  There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.  Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

So they ran both together;  and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.  And he stooping down, and looking in , saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.  For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.  Then the disciples went away again unto their own home."

Evidences of His Resurrection:

"But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping:  and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, and seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.  And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou?  She saith unto them, because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou?  Whom seekest thou?  She, supposing Him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away.  Jesus saith unto, Mary.  She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father:  but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." John 20:11-17

"Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.  And when He had so said, He shewed unto them his hands and His side.  Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord."  John 20:19-20

"But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came."  John 20:24

"And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them:  then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.  Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side:  and be not faithless, but believing.  And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed:  blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."  John 20: 26-29

"After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias: and on this wise shewed He himself."  John 21:1

"Until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen:  to whom also He shewed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God"  Acts 1:2-3

"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:  and that He was seen of Cephas [Peter], then of the twelve:  after that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.  After that, He was seen of James; then of all the apostles.  And last of all He was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time."  1 Corinthians 15:3-8

"But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."  Hebrews 11:6

He Smoothes the Rough Way

"As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.  Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”  Luke 3:4-6

When the Lord comes…

“He giveth power to the faint and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Isaiah 40:29

Are you in a valley today?  That deep dark place is where hope seems to be gone and trouble lies.  When you feel so low and there is no way out, no way around, no way through your trouble, make way for Jesus.  For when Jesus comes, your valley will be filled with His presence.  He will uphold you.  He will walk with you.  He will bring you to level ground once again.

“Isaiah 43:2-3 says, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:  when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour…”

“For thou wilt light my candle:  the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” Psalm 18:28

“Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation:  and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.”  Psalm 18:35

That mountain you are climbing is so high isn’t it?  It seems unreachable.  No matter what you do, you can’t get there.  You try and try, but the summit is too high for you.  When you think you can’t continue the climb, take heart, for the Lord will bring your mountain down to you so you can reach the summit.

“I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:  which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:  who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the field:  to set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.”  Job 5:8-11

“He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.” Psalm 18:33

Is your way confusing and uncertain?  Your path is filled with twists and turns and you can’t see around the next bend.  Obstacles abound.  Your steps are faltering, uncertain, and doubting, and you aren’t sure what’s ahead.  You fear your enemies lay in wait to ambush you.  Don’t despair.  Don’t give up.  You may have stumbled and fallen.  You are bruised and beaten down, but the Lord will make your path straight so you can move ahead in your life without uncertainty or fear or doubt.  He will bring healing, He promises.

“Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.”  Psalm 5:8

“Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.”  Hebrews 12:12-13

Life is so hard.  Your way has been filled with hardships.  There has been no smooth sailing, but constant struggle to stay the course and to stay on course.   The battle has raged around you and nearly defeated you.  When you feel that you are almost overtaken, remember the Lord will make the rough ways in you smooth.  All your sins that you struggle to forsake will be made smooth by the Lord who loves you and seeks to perfect you.  Just as the blacksmith beats the heated metal to shape and form it, the Lord used those struggles you faced helped to make your rough edges smooth and pleasing to Him.

“So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the soldering:  and he fastened it with nails, that should not be moved.”  Isaiah 41:7

“The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.” Psalm 18:46

Remember...

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee:  be not dismayed; for I am thy God:  I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.  Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded:   they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.  Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee:  they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.  For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not: I will help thee.”  Isaiah 41: 10-13

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:1-2

WINDOW OF HOPE

by Joanne Lowe

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17: 7, 8

There are times when there are no doors to open so that we can escape from heartaches and trials. It is so dark and lonely and we can’t get out of this despair. We have a window of hope and His name is Jesus. We can open the window to our hearts and let Him take away the pain and sadness from our hearts.

Jesus is not only the Saviour of the world; He is the hope of the world. When we have done everything that we can do in a situation, Jesus will step in and work on our behalf. He will make the impossible to become possible. When we are facing financial problems, He will always supply the need. He is faithful and we can depend on Him. The question we should ask ourselves is “Can Jesus depend on me”?

It doesn’t matter what trials or heartaches you are facing today, Jesus is your hope. He will pick you up in His arms of love and carry you when you can’t go another step. He will fight your battles and bring you to victory through His precious atoning blood that He shed on the cross of Calvary. He will comfort, encourage, and strengthen you.

Do you have the hope of the world in your heart today? Has there ever been a time in your life when you admitted that you were a sinner and asked Jesus to forgive you and come into your heart and save you? If not, I urge you to do it now.

HEALING AT THE CROSS

by M. S. Lowndes

We know when Jesus was crucified
Upon the wooden cross
Our every sin was laid upon Him
All for loving the lost.

And we know that when He rose again
He conquered death and hell
Through His resurrection we have
Eternal life as well.

For this we praise our gracious Lord
And thank Him for His love
For we could never have had this hope
If it wasn’t for His spilled blood.

But we can know His resurrection power
Right now while we are here
For we can come to the cross of Christ
And lay down our burdens there.

For everything that may hold us back
The hurts from yesterday
At the foot of the cross we lay it down
And then just walk away.

For I believe that there is healing
At the cross of Christ
We do not need to carry these loads
For they’ve all been crucified.

Receive from Jesus the healing you need
For your spirit, body and soul
Then you can arise, freed from your past
To walk completely whole

For what He accomplished on the cross
Goes on into eternity
Just reach out your hand and He will too
And receive His victory.

  HOME SCHOOL TIPS

Teaching Tricks from the Bible

Teaching disinterested kids is discouraging and draining.  There is nothing worse than having to insist that school tasks must be accomplished.  Resistant kids can make homeschooling a drudge for everyone.  Jesus also dealt with resistant learners.  We read in the Bible of His many experiences trying to teach a lost world the importance of salvation.  From these we can glean some helpful tips to teach a resistant kid.

1.  Jesus taught in parables.  Parables are stories with a morale or religious lesson.  When Jesus told a parable, He used words and situations that His listeners could understand.  When He taught the parable of the sower (Matthew 13), he used farming as the scenario to teach truth.  Rather than give an in-depth explanation, he gave them enough to get them thinking.  Teaching is about piquing their interest.  When you give them too much information to take in, they quit listening.  It is better to give them enough information to drive them to learning more on their own.

2.  Jesus taught by example.

The Pharisees had trouble understanding the Law of the Sabbath.  They thought it was wrong to heal on the Sabbath.  So Jesus demonstrated how to implement the Law correctly by healing the man with the withered hand on the Sabbath.  He showed His compassion by healing the lame, the blind, the ill.  He fed the multitudes with both physical food and spiritual food.  We too can teach our kids how to love others and how to obey His Word by our example.  Show your kids how to serve others with acts of kindness and compassion to them and to others.

3.  Jesus taught using object lessons.

When the disciples asked Jesus who is the greatest in the kingdom, Jesus called a little child over.  He explained their need to become as little children if they wanted to enter into the kingdom of God.  The message was about trust.  Unless we trust Jesus as Savior and Lord, we cannot be saved from the penalty of our sin.  In another instance, Jesus explained how the love of riches can keep us from salvation by comparing it to  a camel going through the eye of a needle.  In another instance, Jesus explained the relationship between man and Himself by talking about sheep and their shepherd.  Visual lessons make a lasting impression.

4.  Jesus taught by asking questions.

Our goal as teachers is not to train our kids in memorization of facts, but to help them internalize that information and apply it to their lives.  Yes, there will be some memorization, but we don't want rote answers.  We want them to think and to be able to explain concepts.  If they have to explain a concept or demonstrate a concept, they will gain a better understanding of what they have read or seen.  Asking questions forces them to reveal what they know.

5.  Jesus taught by telling stories.  Stories convey truths without pointing fingers.  Reading the Bible and good books aloud to your children help them to learn life lessons through the experiences of others.  He explained forgiveness by teaching a story about a man forgiven of a great debt in Matthew 18.  The man and his family were headed to the poor house, but were forgiven of their debt.  But the man didn't understand that he should respond in kind to others as evidenced by his treatment of a man who owed him.  He was ready to cast this man into prison.

6.  Jesus taught with authority and quoted the prophets and the Law.  Jesus was informed, knowledgeable, and prepared to teach.  If you don't know the material, your kids will not listen to you.  Kids hate hypocrisy.  Do not ask them to do what you will not do.  Do not set a standard that you do not follow.

7.  Jesus equipped the disciples to carry out the tasks of ministry by on the job training.  Kids love hands-on tasks that allow them to use their newfound skills.  If you are teaching them how about measurements, provide opportunities to measure objects.  Cooking that involves measuring ingredients is a great activity for kids.

Jesus never gave up on His disciples.  He was patient and longsuffering.  If your child doesn't understand a concept, try another method to teach it.  Or put it aside for another time.  Exercise faithfulness when teaching, being careful to make your teaching time a priority in your daily life.

THOUGHT PROVOKERS

An Excerpt from "The Greatest Motive to Repentance"

by Charles H. Spurgeon

"Let me also say to you, beloved, that the more you look at Jesus crucified, the more you will mourn for sin.  Growing thought will bring growing tenderness.  I would have you look much at the pierced One, that you may hate sin much.  Books that set forth the passion of our Lord and hymns that sing of His cross have ever been most dear to saintly minds because of their holy influence upon the heart and conscience.  Live at Calvary, beloved, for there you will live at your best.  Live at Calvary, and love at Calvary, until live and love become the same thing.  I would say, look to the pierced One until your own heart is pierced.  An old divine saith, "Look at the cross until all that is on the cross is in your heart."  He further says, "Look at Jesus until He looks at you."  Steadily view His suffering person until He seems to turn His head and look at you, as He did at Peter when he went out and wept bitterly.  See Jesus until you see yourself:  mourn for Him until you mourn for your sin...He suffered in the room, place, and stead of guilty men.  This is the Gospel.  Whatever others may preach, "We preach Christ crucified" (1 Corinthians 1:23).  We will ever bear the cross in the forefront.  The substitution of Christ for the sinner is the essence of the Gospel.  We do not keep back the doctrine of the second Advent; but, first and foremost, we preach the pierced One--this it is that shall lead to evangelical repentance, when the Spirit of grace is poured out."

"Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Hebrews 13:20-21

TIP OF THE MONTH

Celebrate Easter with a beautiful table set with your best dishes and a floral centerpiece or simple white candle.

If using your fine china, remember to hand wash.  Do not place china, silver, or crystal in the dishwasher.  High temperatures and detergents can damage your dishes.  Line the bottom of your sink with a soft towel to buffer dishes. Wash with a soft cloth, rinse, and dry.  For more tips on caring for your dishes, consult this  handy guide.

If you aren't sure how to set your formal table, check out this place setting diagram.
