  Letter from the Editor...

Hello!

This month's issue is about standing fast and pressing on in our walk with Christ.  We live in troubled times, maybe no more so than other generations have faced, but it is grievous to see our nation turn increasingly away from the Judeo-Christian ethic.  As Believers we still have a mission of evangelism and discipleship to accomplish so we must gird ourselves up and stand fast on the Word of God, pressing on to the race's end.  We have the promise of our Lord to stand with us, for we are engraved on the palm of His hand.  Let us remember the words of Jesus:

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." John 10:27-29

The Believer's Mission...

"Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient; whereunto also they were appointed.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy."

1 Peter 2:1-10

STAND FAST!

"Whereunto He called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work." 2 Thessalonians 2:14-17

This is a time of great sorrow for our country that was founded on Judeo-Christian teachings, but we can choose to persevere in Christ, or we can choose to stand down, putting aside the truths of God's Word, thereby forsaking Him and His teachings.  While we may grieve the downfall of our nation, our home is not here, but in the heavenly Kingdom of God.  We still have a mission before us to "preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:2).

Timothy reminds us to "continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them" (2 Timothy 3:14).  Embrace the sound teaching of the Word of God, "for all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is frofitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  Let no one deceive you with pretty words that tickle the ears, but have little truth.  Timothy says:  "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables (2 Timothy 4:3-4).  Already we see this to be true as we hear our politicians lobby for abortion rights, sacrificing the unborn to certain death.  We see the Scriptures distorted in new translations that are gender neutral, and hearing of others who discount portions of the Scriptures that are contrary to their beliefs.

Study the Word so that you will have knowledge and understanding that you may be able to teach the truth and rebuke error.  "In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will" (2 Timothy 2:25-26).  Be careful to learn sound doctrine and do not rely on the opinions of man.  Compare everything against the Word of God and remember that God's Word is secure and does not change.  Be willing to endure ridicule rather than compromise Biblical truth.  Timothy exhorts the Believers in 2 Timothy 1:13a to "hold fast the form of sound words".

What is your purchase price?  Do not be tempted to compromise your faith with promises of wealth, position, or power.  Do not be a Judas who betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.  "For the love of money is the root of all evil:  which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (1 Timothy 6:10).

Be willing to relinquish your safety for the cause of Christ, as the missionaries of old.  I call to mind the testimony of Jim Elliott and his friends who sacrificed themselves for the cause of Christ in Ecuador so that the Aucas Indians would come to Christ.  Be willing to sacrifice your comfort and your pursuit of material gain for the cause of Christ.  Years ago a friend under strong conviction, quit his job so he would not be forced to work on Sunday.  His family endured much hardship and suffering for his stand of faith.

Be prepared to endure hardship for the cause of Christ.  Do not lose your focus, for our mission is evangelism and discipleship.  "Give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" says Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:13.  To avoid being deceived by false teaching, you must stay in the Word and in prayer.  Then you will be able to recognize error and will be equipped to teach and rebuke false teachings.

Timothy exhorts us to "follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness" (1 Timothy 6:11).  Let us not be guilty of demonstrating ungodly behavior before a lost world that forever colors their view of Christians.  It is difficult to refrain from angry responses and unloving actions towards those in strong disagreement to the Lord.  If you blow it, repent and seek forgiveness.  Practice humility and show love for all.  Extend mercy and grace with longsuffering.  Remember Jesus was mocked and scorned, yet gave no defense.

Finally, Timothy warns us:

"If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness:  from such withdraw thyself."  1 Timothy 6:3-5

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."  1 Timothy 2:1-6

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."  1 Timothy 6:12

Let us pray for boldness to speak the truth of God's Word and to live according to His ways before an increasingly hostile world.  Let us pray for opportunities to share the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Trust in the Lord and He will enable and equip you to do His work.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord...be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given  us in Christ Jesus before the world began"  2 Timothy 1:7-8a, 9

May our Lord be with us...

"Now the just shall live by faith:  but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.  But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul."  Hebrews 10:38-39

   MUSINGS...  A Message from Paul

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  and that He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:  after that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.  After that, He was seen of James; then of all the apostles.  And last of all He was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time."  1 Corinthians 15:1-8

"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.  But every man in his own order:  Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.  Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.  For He must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.  For He hath put all things under His feet.  But when He saith all things are put under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him.  And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all."  1 Corinthians 15:20-28

"And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.  Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:   for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."  1 Corinthians 15:49-58

PRESS ON...

There are many of us who struggle with difficulties, hardships, and trials that seem beyond our abilities to endure.  This song by Selah has been a blessing to me, giving me the encouragement I needed in dark times to keep on trusting my Lord, and to keep on running the race that the Apostle Paul speaks of in 1 Corinthians 9: 24-27.

Life is a race of endurance that requires the strength of the Lord Jesus if we are to get through to the finish when our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will say "well done thou good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23).  We must strive for excellence in all we do, all the time.  For our Lord requires us to be faithful.  Paul reminds us:  "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance;  for ye serve the Lord Christ."  (Colossians 3:23-24).  It is so tempting to quit or give up when we get weary, isn't it?

We must press on through each day, trusting our Lord for the strength to endure our trials, believing He will make a way for us.  We will be victorious as we allow Him to guide us and direct us.  Our work is to obey.

In these times, we must make it a matter of our will to continue to be the light and the salt that a wicked world needs.  Let us put on the whole armor of God and take up the fight for righteousness as God leads us in our daily lives...

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness:

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"  Ephesians 6:10-18

Forty Days and Forty Nights

 by George Hunt Smyttan

Forty days and forty nights
Thou wast fasting in the wild;
Forty days and forty nights
Tempted, and yet undefiled.

Should not we thy sorrow share
And from worldly joys abstain;
fasting with unceasing prayer,
Strong with thee to suffer pain?

Then if Satan on us press,
Jesus, Savior, hear our call!
Victor in the wilderness,
Grant we may not faint nor fall!

So shall we have peace divine:
Holier gladness ours shall be;
Round us, too, shall angels shine,
such as ministered to thee.

Keep, oh keep us, Savior dear,
Ever constant by thy side;
That with thee we may appear
At the eternal Eastertide.

  HOME SCHOOL TIPS

Homeschooling is the Solution

Years ago as a new homeschooling family, I remember inciting the ire of a fellow homeschooler when I excitedly shared all my plans and goals for our children.  I remember the sneer on her face and the unkind words of contempt in her response, all because we had an agenda for our homeschool.  Frankly, I was shocked by her attitude because I thought everyone who homeschooled their children had an agenda.  Our agenda centered around what we wanted our sons to know and understand about our Lord, and we wanted to instill good character traits as well as providing a solid foundation for higher learning.  What could be wrong with that?  You see I believe that Christ-centered homeschooling is one solution to fostering a God-fearing nation.

Before long I learned that many Christian homeschool families do have an agenda for their children.  They actively pursue their educational goals and strive to instill in their children a love for the Lord and His ways.  For after all, this is the message of Deuteronomy 6 where parents are commanded to teach their children the commandments, statutes, and laws of God.  In a society that places the responsibility for teaching children in the school environment, it is clear that we have erred when we abdicate our responsibilities to train and teach our children.  Children without a Biblical foundation and solid educational skills will more easily embrace an ungodly worldview.

Homeschooling keeps children in the home where they have solid role models in the parents.  In a Christ-centered home, the parents will instill sound Biblical doctrine into daily lessons through reading materials, essay topics, penmanship practice using Scripture verses, and in music and art.  Through homeschooling, parents have the opportunity to foster spiritual growth in a more comprehensive way than is possible if children are outside the home six hours a day.

Parents know their children better than anyone, and understand how best to motivate and train their children.  Many children are being left behind in oversized classrooms without learning the fundamentals of reading, science, math and language.  How tragic it is to witness middle school and high school age young people struggling to read.  Homeschooling affords parents the opportunity to ensure that foundational lessons are mastered.

For the children who may be coming out of a school environment, homeschooling enables parents to strengthen weak skills, correct attitude issues, and promote learning in an environment that will increase the child's self-confidence and self-discipline.  Children must learn they have a responsibility to obey and work as unto the Lord.  Oftentimes, children will need to review previously studied material to determine grade level achievement and determine areas that need reinforcement.  During the adjustment period, be patient as you and your children establish a daily routine, develop curriculum achievement goals, and learn to work together in the educating process.

The success of the homeschool lies squarely upon the shoulders of the parents who must practice self-denial and self-sacrifice in order to educate and train their children.  Homeschooling requires a commitment of time and energy and focus.  A lackadaisical attitude results in an educational process that tends to be on again-off again, fostering an inconsistent learning environment.  The education and training of our children must be foremost in our endeavors.  A strong commitment by the parents will ensure the success of the homeschool.

Families who place their trust in the Lord and wish to honor Him and seek his direction in their homeschooling endeavor, will find favor and success.

THOUGHT PROVOKERS

Finding Victory Over the Fear of Man

(An excerpt from the "Fear of Man" by Del Fehsenfeld Jr.)

"The fear of man bringeth a snare:  but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.  Proverbs 29:25

Where do you start?

First, agree with God that you fear man and that you live in insecurity.  The biggest struggle is actually admitting it.

Second, confess your struggle to Christian brothers and sisters who can pray for you and hold you accountable.

Once you agree with God and begin to be honest with others, you will start the most liberating journey of your life.

Would you be willing to pray this prayer?

God, it's true.  I'm so consumed with the fear of man.  I'm so ashamed.  I fear man more than I fear You.  I want to be set free.  The pride in me is at the root of my sin.  Take the axe to the root of that tree in my life, Lord.  Cleanse me; unshackle me; make me free to serve You!

 ASPARAGUS WITH HAZELNUT BUTTER

1 lb Cooked Asparagus

1 oz Finely Ground Hazelnuts

2 tablespoon Butter

2 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar

Salt And Pepper To Taste Wash asparagus under cold running water. Snap off lower end of each stalk with your fingers. Let the stalk break where it wants to, this will leave only the tender portion of the stalk. Young tender asparagus can be cooked in a steamer for 5-7 minutes, the more mature stalks for 7-10 minutes. Do not over cook asparagus, it will lose flavor and nutrients if over cooked. At the same time, place the hazelnuts and butter in a small heavy skillet. Heat until the butter melts and mix thoroughly. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour hazelnut butter over hot asparagus. Serve at once.

"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favour with all the people.  And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."  Acts 2:46-47

TIP OF THE MONTH  -   Care and Seasoning of Cast Iron Pans

Consider using cast iron pans for all your cooking needs.  Properly cared for, these pans last a lifetime and beyond.  With correct seasoning, they provide a non-stick cooking surface.  Follow the seasoning steps below for non-stick cooking success and learn how to care for cast iron pans:

Seasoning your pan is important if you want to maintain a non-stick surface.  Cast iron has pores which must be smoothed out by baking in oil or grease.  Begin the seasoning process by first cleaning your pan with soapy water.  Rinse, and dry thoroughly.  Next rub your pan with food grade coconut oil or butter.  Go lightly because you don't need a lot to accomplish the task.  Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.  Place pan upside down on rack with aluminum foil underneath the rack to catch any drips.  Heat pan for 30-60 minutes.  Cool to room temperature.  This process may need to be repeated if food sticks.

Allow pan to cool completely before cleaning.  Clean your pan after each use by removing food particles with a paper towel.  Lightly wash with soapy water, rinse, and dry.  Do not soak your pan, and do not place in dishwasher. Dry on burner to insure surface is completely dry.  Lightly oil pan with coconut oil then wipe out excess with paper towel.

Never put cold water into a hot cast iron pan to avoid possible cracking of the pan.
