Letter from the Editor...

Hello! My heart is grieved to hear that once faithful Christians are buying into every wind of false doctrine. How our Lord must grieve too. We are warned in the Bible that there will come a great falling away from the truth, so we must be alert and check everything against the Word to see if it is truth. Let us pray that we will not be deceived. Let us be mindful of Jesus' prime directive to teach the Gospel message. Children and teens are particularly vulnerable to false teachings. We must pray for them regularly and teach them the Truth. Many people suffer from allergies and problems with cleaning products. I have included some helpful alternatives I hope you will find helpful. Begin reading Words of Encouragement by clicking to continue for the first article... or just scroll down to In This Issue. "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient; whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy." 1 Peter 2:1-10 (KJV)

STRAYING FROM THE PRIME DIRECTIVE
"Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." Jude 21-23
The Christian's prime directive is the great commission given to the disciples by Jesus. Matthew records the account in Chapter 28:18-20:
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of they world. Amen."
Jesus left His disciples with a purpose to tell the good news of His coming, His crucifixion, and His rising from the dead after three days in the grave. They were to teach the people to repent of their sins to receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. They were to baptize those who came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah and to teach them to remember Him with the Lord's Supper. Then they were to teach them all that He had taught them. The Book of Acts tells the story of their efforts. They were empowered to carry out Jesus' commands by the Holy Spirit.
That prime directive still stands relevant for today's Believers. Nothing has changed from the time Jesus issued His command. If Jesus were to come today, I fear He would find us unfaithful. We have strayed from our mission. Many are simply ill-equipped and uncertain on how to witness. Many are uneducated on the Word of God. In short, they have not prepared themselves to fulfill God's command. We rely on the Holy Spirit, but we must be willing and teachable.
Often a social gospel of meeting physical needs is preferred rather than risk offending someone by telling them what the Bible says. In the process of meeting spiritual needs, physical needs will also be met. When a seeker becomes a Believer, God steps in to provide and help in times of need. Without God, the needy are left struggling on their own. Yet, God wants no one to perish but all to come to Him (2 Peter 3:9).
Too often we try to adapt our churches into something that is more acceptable to the seeker. The result in my opinion is catastrophic. The world creeps in as we try to make church less intimidating. We don't want to offend or to cause someone to decide not to come. We want a watered down message so they can understand and be saved.
My experience with a seeker friendly church was horrible. At first new ways to foster church growth were exciting, but before long, I realized that the Believer was pushed aside to welcome the seeker. Wonderful! Unfortunately, to be seeker acceptable, we removed the Bibles from the pew, moved the observance of the Lord's Table to an evening, and changed our worship style so it would be more like what the seekers listen to away from church. Soon there was a church full of seeking people. Were they seeking God? Yes, some were, but many were seeking fun and entertaining activities for their children. People enjoyed the coffee and donut time more than they did the Bible study time. Bible study evolved into self-help books and popular works of Christian authors. We were hearing man's understanding but not the Word. Fellowship was a big hit, but studying the Word didn't seem to be as attractive. Finally the name of our church was changed so the denominational designation would not be a put-off to the seekers. Anything that would cause offense to the seeker was removed or hidden. The church became so seeker friendly, there seemed little distinction from the world's ways. As long as everyone was having fun, then all must be well seemed to be the thinking.
Here is a comparison of seeker oriented worship versus God oriented worship:
|
Seeker Oriented Worship *People pleasing *Enticing to the Seeker *Feeds the flesh *Builds up the ego *Founded on political correctness, tolerance, ecumenical *A social gospel
|
God Oriented Worship *God pleasing *Enticing to the Believer *Feeds the spirit and heart of man *Fosters brokenness and repentance *Founded on truth from God's Word *Evangelism through personal relationships
|
Our primary focus must always be on the spiritual. Think of the progression of the prime directive's steps: teaching first, then baptizing. Church is the gathering place for the Believer first, with all who will join them welcome. Let us not make the mistake of moving our focus off discipling the Believers. For the seeker who does not have Jesus is incapable of being discipled in spiritual things. Many of us know people who sit in church for years without ever making a profession of faith. Did the weekly lessons and preaching make a difference? No, because they are incapable of understanding spiritual things. To understand spiritual truths, one must be saved. Does that mean they are unwelcome in church? No, but we must be more diligent to teach and train those who are seeking so they can understand their need for the Savior Jesus.
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Corinthians 2:14
Seekers can be ministered to via home visitation where they can hear the salvation message. Home visits can also be used for basic discipleship. Developing a personal relationship will lead to a mentoring relationship and will provide needed accountability for the new believer. One on one teaching will quickly bring a new believer up to speed on basic doctrines so they will feel more comfortable in the new environment of a church family.
I am trained in sharing the Gospel and have had opportunities to do so with some good results. I want my church to grow primarily by adding new Believers who have made the decision to join our church family in worship and service. I've learned that when the church is Believer focused, people grow and become equipped to minister to the needs of the body and to evangelize the seeker. When seekers accept Jesus as Savior and Lord and come into a church family, they too will grow and become equipped.
"Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." 1 Peter 4:1-2
Remember the prime directive!
"Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time." Colossians 4:5

""Seek the Lord, and His strength: seek His face evermore." Psalm 105:1
"For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. Colossians 2:1-4

"For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake." 1 Thessalonians 1:5
"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?" 1 Peter 4:17-18
We live in uncertain times, and there have always been false prophets, but we are witnessing a confusion in the church today. Churches are embracing false doctrines.
There are those who have rejected the truth of God's Word or have rejected the absolute truth of God's Word. They have embraced new doctrines that are far from what Jesus taught. They are in apostasy. Some of the common apostasy teachings include:
* rejection of Jesus as God's only Son
* embracing all religions under one umbrella by claiming all "god" names are representative of the one true God
* false prophets such as Harold Camping who continually try to pinpoint Christ's return and fail
* mysticism which traps people seeking an experience of God into unbiblical practices of meditation and prayer
* accepting a salvation decision that does not include repentance and submission to the lordship of Jesus
* works based salvation
* teaching against the inerrancy of Scripture
The Book of Jude gives us warning about following false doctrines with these words:
"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." Jude 3-4
"But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves." Jude 10
Matthew chimes in with these words of Jesus:
"Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." Matthew 7:15-18
Paul warns the Colossians:
"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power" Colossians 2:8-10
Can it be any clearer to us? We are warned that there will come those who will seek to pervert the Word of God. They will seek to confuse the Believers and destroy the Lost. Many will fall away, the Bible teaches in the Book of Mark:
"And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: for false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect." Mark 13:21-22
If you will "study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 15), you will be lest likely to be deceived. Pray for discernment!
Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing who teach a feel-good message, but who do not know the truth of the Word!
Beware of those who teach a works oriented message, but do not know the truth of the Word!
Get out, before your understanding is confused. Find a church home that is teaching and upholding the truth of the Word.

HOME SCHOOL TIPS
It is so important that we pray for our kids. In their immaturity they may forget to pray on a regular basis. We as parents must intercede for them, and we must train them to go to their heavenly Father to seek His forgiveness and restoration so they can maintain a clear conscience. Here is a checklist of things to pray:
|
Pray for your child to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. Pray for your child’s conviction and repentance from sin. Pray your child’s heart will be softened and receptive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray your child will have a hunger and thirst for His Word. Pray that the Lord will reveal His will to your child. Pray that your child will have opportunities to develop the gifts and talents the Lord has given. Pray your child will choose godly friends. Pray your child will reject fleshly attitudes and behavior. Pray your child will be diligent in school work. Pray your child will love others. Pray your child will be humble and submissive to authority. Pray your child will exercise common sense and good judgment. Pray your child will flee temptation and resist Satan. Pray your child will have a merry heart. Pray your child will be strong in the Lord. Pray your child will love the Lord with all of his heart, mind, soul, and spirit.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3
THOUGHT PROVOKERS"The man who knows that he is risen with Christ and has set his affection on things above will be a just, trusty, ingenuous, unselfish, truthful man. He will add to his faith "virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity" (1 Peter 1:5-7). He will seek not to be "barren nor unfruitful" (2 Peter 1:8). "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: (Philippians 4:8) --these he will think upon and do."
