Are your secret prayers answered? Does hope reign in your heart? Do you have confidence the requests that fill your heart and mind will be heard by God? Maybe you aren’t so sure because you’ve never received an answer to your heartfelt prayers. Did you know the Bible tells us that God does answer prayer?
Many people pray. If you were to take a survey, you would discover that many people believe prayer works. Cara Santa Maria quoted a survey in 2012 that indicated over 83,000 people believe God answers prayer. Yet, there are those who might testify they have prayed, but they did not receive an answer. They don’t believe God hears their prayers.
What is lacking in their prayer life? Righteousness. James 5:15 (KJV) clearly states “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. To be righteous is to be perfect, meaning without sin.
Who is righteous? Romans 3:23-24 explains that “…all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God”.
Who is without sin? Only those who have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Jesus is God’s only begotten Son. To be cleansed of sin, one must call upon the name of the Lord Jesus to be made righteous.
Without the redemption offered by Jesus, there is a penalty for sin. The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
This verse explains that death is a final penalty for being sinful. It is understood that death is a physical death, the result of old age, accident, or illness, but in Romans 6:23, it is used to describe a permanent spiritual condition.
What is the key to answered prayer? Faith. Faith in what? The ability of doctors and medicine? Faith in one’s own abilities to make things happen? Faith in others? The Bible says we need faith in the Lord. He alone has the ability to answer prayers. How much faith is needed? Only a little bit. God does the rest.
