The Abomination of Child Sacrifice

In the news last week the U.S. House Judicial Committee gave the first hearing under the heading:   “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider.”  Of course this stems from the recently publicized undercover videos by The Center for Medical Progress about the sale of aborted baby parts.  The purpose of the hearing was to determine if laws banning partial-birth abortion and the murder of babies born alive were broken by Planned Parenthood.

After watching several of the videos by The Center for Medical Progress, I was interested to hear the outcome of the Judicial Committee hearing.  Honestly, I couldn’t understand what reasoning could be given for the atrocious comments I heard from Planned Parenthood executives and others affiliated with Planned Parenthood in the videos.

Four “witnesses” were called upon to give testimony and answer questions by Judicial Committee members:

*James Bopp, Jr., General Counsel for the National Right to Life

*Gianna Jessen, a saline abortion survivor from Franklin, TN

*Melissa Ohden, a saline abortion survivor from Gladstone, MO

*Priscilla Smith, Director and Senior Fellow for the Program for the Study of Reproductive, Information Society Project, Yale Law School

It was clear early on the Judicial Committee is divided on the issue of abortion and the sale of aborted baby parts.  Unfortunately, while I was watching the live testimony, the site went off the air, and I did not see the remaining questioning and testimonies.

The most compelling comments of the hearing were made by Constitution and Civil Justice Subcommittee Chairman Trent Franks (R-Ariz.).  The man was practically weeping for the callous disregard for unborn babies by Planned Parenthood.

Most disturbing was the insistence by Congressman John Conyers Jr. that the videos “were deceptively edited.”  During his opening statement, he said “there is no credible evidence that Planned Parenthood violated the law.”  Congressman Conyers went on to say, “the videos wrongly implied that Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue and organs for profit; that is not the case.”  Apparently his conclusions of no wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood is because the issues discussed in the videos are acceptable within current laws as he explained.  If that is the case, then these laws must be changed, for they are not acceptable for any reason if we live under Judeo-Christian laws.

The King James Bible version says in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”   How horrifying it is to see this verse being played out before us in this civilized era.  With all our knowledge and understanding, how can we possibly believe abortion and the sale of babies body parts is acceptable and civilized?  The callous way this was discussed on the videos belies the idea that we are a civilized people.

In the Old Testament we can read of accounts where children were sacrificed to strange gods:

*In Leviticus 18:3, God clearly and specifically tells the people of Israel they are not to do as the Egyptians and the Caananites who practiced idol worship by sacrificing their children.   Verse 21 says, “And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech…”.

*In Deuteronomy just before the crossing into the Promised Land, Moses told the people the Law that God had commanded they obey.  In Deuteronomy 12:29-31 he cautioned them about following the heathen nations and their idol worship.  He gets specific about what exactly they were not to do: “Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God:  for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.”

*In Deuteronomy 18:10, the LORD instructed the Levites and the tribe of Levi:  “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire…”  Why?  “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD” says Moses in 18:12a.

*King Manasseh “made his son to pass through the fire” (2 Kings 21:6).

*King Solomon had many foreign wives who were not of the Hebrews.  His wives did not worship the Lord God Jehovah, but strange gods.  It is recorded in 1 Kings 11:7 that he built a high place for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon to please his wives.  He too was willing to compromise his beliefs by giving his foreign wives liberty to worship their gods as they pleased.

What was the penalty from God for such horrific practices?

*Leviticus 20: 1-5 says, “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death:  the people of the land shall stone him with stones.  And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.  And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:  Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off…”

Child sacrifice is abhorrent to the LORD.  The Bible is very clear that children are precious to Him.  He did not want His people to be caught up in the worship practices of the heathen nations.  Psalm 127:3-5 teaches us what God thinks about the importance of children:

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:  and the fruit of the womb is his reward.  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.  Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:  they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”

Children are a blessing from the LORD.  They are precious to Him.  Clearly we are not to follow the teachings of the heathen people who do not know the LORD, and do not worship Him.

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.  Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.  They also do no iniquity:  they walk in his ways.  Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.”  Psalm 119:1-4

Since it has become unfashionable for people to attend church, read the Bible, and follow the Judeo-Christian laws of the LORD, we find ungodly practices creeping into our culture.  This is serious because the Christian heritage this country was founded upon is being disregarded, and laws are being changed to reflect this stepping away from the LORD.

It is astounding to me that people find nothing wrong with harvesting baby body parts.  Abortion is abhorrent, especially when an unwanted baby can be placed through adoption into a loving and caring family.  When I served as a crisis pregnancy counselor, I learned there are those who want to enjoy a life of promiscuity without the consequences of an unwanted pregnancy.  When people choose to depart from righteousness, there will be consequences.  We can readily observe the breaking down of societal norms and the boundaries of decency that have led us to this point where many in our nation see nothing wrong with harvesting babies as if they were a commodity to be sold.

Be sure that God sees and will act in His time to judge us.  May God forgive us for this wickedness we have allowed.
